MATARIKI WĀNANGA - TAI TIMU TAI PARI

That moment when you inhale, and there you are full of breath, expanded lungs and then for whatever reason you begin to exhale. 

Sometimes we are fully aware, sometimes our body just does its thing, and we are breathing. 

Just as the ocean moves, we move. 

This wānanga is for the place of the changing tide within us, before it goes in or out, Tai mate - the slack tide. 

This place is where we harvest from for this Matariki. 

Yes, we acknowledge we have come to the end of your year, and rather than feasting too far back into our year,

we harvest from right here. What is right now now! 

All moments leading to this one, all tides turning at this point. 

What becomes from us existing within it, moving with it, being with it - whatever you 'it' is for you. 

Matariki traditionally is a time of honouring those who have passed during this year, it is a time to gather around in our communities, share kai and our stories. We grow together, not alone. 

We circle, with darkness and in the ritual portal of dance. 

Timetable

Friday night - Open Community Celebration - 7 PM - 9.30 < ISH > PM

Saturday - 10 AM - 1 PM

Lunch 1 PM - 3 PM

Afternoon session - 3 PM - 6 PM

Night time - Shared meal, and evening session weather permitting with fire. 

Sunday - 10 AM - 1 PM

Lunch - 1 PM - 2 PM

Closing - 2 PM - 4 PM 

Monday/ Wednesday/Friday morning - Online via zoom for one hour 630-730 AM for our transitions and any loose threads. (optional and encouraged 

The above times are only there to give a guideline, when we are in wānanga they may vary 

and I try to be as accommodating as possible for us all. 

It is difficult for me to be exact when I say this is what you will expect as with this particular wānanga we very much follow the mauri of all who come, I have my kaupapa and then we flow. We will spend time with our atua of water - Tangaroa and Hine Moana. 

Hine nui te po will be with us to support us in the dark and Hineteiwaiwa as we enter our creative process. 

My sense is that this wānanga is to bring forward that Korowai of awhi (care) and wrap it closely around each of us for this moment, 

giving space for all the changes, all the in-breaths and out breaths, 

for the kindness of our hearts to have space to heal, shine and find peace.

I am supported by the Open Floor Curriculum, Manaha Embodied Movement facilitation, and the Art in Motion process. 

So yes we dance, we make, we share and we exist in the expression of our truth.
