About the Event

As we transition into the depths of winter and the beginning of the Māori New Year, we invite you to join our closed group to explore the profound connection between our emotions and the seasonal rhythms. Together, we will anchor ourselves through embodied movement practices, finding stability and grounding in our bodies.

In this term, we will:

  • Embrace the Darkness: Delve into the introspective nature of winter, asking ourselves what we are sitting with in the dark. This season of reflection and stillness provides an opportunity to confront and understand our deepest emotions.
  • Embodied Anchors: Utilize movement practices to create anchors within ourselves, helping us navigate emotional turbulence and find a sense of peace and stability.
  • Weaving Decolonisation: Integrate the principles of decolonisation into our practices, challenging and unlearning ingrained systems of oppression while fostering a community rooted in respect, understanding, and growth.
  • Celebrate Matariki: Honor the Māori New Year, a time of renewal and rebirth. As we dance through the winter, we will align our movements and intentions with the themes of Matariki, embracing the light and new beginnings it brings.

Let me be your space holder and facilitator during this time.

Let the Open Floor curriculum resource you for the time ahead.

Let us be guided by this maramataka, this season of the year, and be witness to the journey of our lives.

In deep gratitude for all that Te Ao Māori lends us as we exist here in Aotearoa.
