About the Event
Each week we wananga with a whetu/star of Matariki and this sesonal change.
I will say this so you know if you need to continue reading.
This is a closed group ongoing for the school term.
To be part of this wānanga series, you must be committed (to the best of your abilities) to be here for the series.
There is a level of safety that happens when you know who is going to be on the dance floor with you.
Our nervous systems settle collectively. Our dance floor expands.
We all have space in this circle.
If you are called to be part of such a dance floor, this is my karanga (my call, my invitation) to you. Nau mai.
This wānanga series leads us, and supports us to our Matariki Māori New Year.
Matariki is not just a celebration, it is an acknowledgment of the year past, of those who have passed over, and a place to ensure our harvest is safe and our stories.
For this series, we create the time to explore our embodiment in this season of transition.
We spend time with our personal transitions as we come to the end of the cycle of our year.
What have we brought to our Pataka (storehouses) that will nourish and sustain us over these cooler months?
We have to be mindful that what we have brought in from the harvest will not rot over winter and contaminate all that surrounds it.
This matters not just for our food harvest but for the harvest of our lives.
This is a dance!
We spend time with our collective transition, where are we right now as a community, as part of a global society?
Where is our attention as the nights get colder and days shorter?
It is a time to rest deep and to dance wildly.
We have been given so much over the past year to witness in ourselves, in others and in the world.
Much has risen to the surface that requires acknowledgment and time in the dance.
Much that has blossomed whose seeds now need to be nourished to grow in strength, and to germinate come spring.
Let me be your space holder and facilitator during this time.
Let the Open Floor curriculum resource you for the time ahead.
Let us be guided by this maramataka, this season of the year, and be witness to the journey of our lives.
In deep gratitude for all that Te Ao Māori lends us as we exist here in Aotearoa.
What to expect.
