About the Event

Tuia ki runga Tuia ki raro Tuia te muka tangata Ka rongo te Po Ka rongo te Ao Tihei mauri ora

Unite above Unite below Unite the threads of people Listen to the night Listen to the light Let there be life

If you have been to any of my classes, it is highly likely that you have heard me say this whakatauki.

Tuia te muka tangata ~ Unites the threads of the people. This is our new fortnightly committed group which takes us through term times.

I am creating this container for many reasons, depth of practice for one.

Open Floor Curriculum is vast and when woven in with Te Ao Māori it becomes a steady and enriching passage for our lives.

During this term some of the threads that will be present in the teaching are;

Mahi a Atua - learning the purakau (stories) and embodiment of our Atua ( gods)

Maramataka - aware of our cycles and seasons of Aotearoa.

Manakitanga - upholding the mana of each other.

Whanaungatanga - group body connection and belonging.

Ringatoi - written and spoken word.

Hautua Rongo - non violince

Mana Motuhake - Self-determination and a space of mana enhancement.

Ahurutanga - Sacred Space.

When we gather together in groups for long periods of time something sacred is created, this is now our container for this purpose.

To weave those loose fibers together, to bind what needs to hold fast, to return to the earth that which is no longer required and to find other threads from other humans that may support your practice. To honour the sacred threads of this group body and to DANCE! full bodied towards ourselves and all that moves with us.

We are stronger together, in all things.

Movement as mihi, Movement as an acknowledgment of where we are and what arrives to move.

We will be a committed group as best we can, turning up to each session, for term 2.

Dates - We begin on the 20th of April with and open class to anyone who may wish to join, dance, or inquire more.

After that the circle closes and you take your place.

4/5, 18/5. 1/6, 15/6. 29/6.

Each fortnight you will also receive a playlist, writing prompts and artist dates are encouraged.

In our first week we will create our journal for the term, please bring along any markers with you.

Bring a blanket and personal water bottle, if you have an offering to the altar know that you are welcome to add.

This wānanga will take us right up to Matariki and then in term 3 we begin again.

We turn up for ourselves, to the process, in the comfort and discomfort,

in the grit and the grace with the same group of dancers each fortnight.

Deepening the intimacy with yourself and your practice.

I am looking for kaitiaki for this series, if you would like to work in exchange for this series please reach out.
