MANAHAU EMBODIED MOVEMENT
MOVE.MEANT AS MIHI
Manahau Embodied Movement is the meeting of Te Ao Måori, Open Floor Movement Practice, Rongoa Toi and Ringa toi practices.
Manahau Embodied Movement has been born out of the seven years of teaching Open Floor Movement Curriculum with Måori tikanga, kaupapa, and Måori world views | Te Ao Måori. The tipping point came when teaching at Te Papa National Museum of Aotearoa for the first Indigenous Public holiday MATARIKI 2022. So began Manahau Embodied Movement.
.
Manahau Movement kaupapa is to create Indigenized dance floors/movement spaces, so we can decondition ourselves and stand with our MANA MOTUHAKE - self-sovereignty,
Mana Tangata, Mana Atua, Mana Whenua.
The Five Pou of Manahau Embodied Movement.
Manawa | Rongoa | Hau tu a Rongo | Ahuatanga | Ringa toi |
This practice is a resourcing type of DANCE where people come together to express themselves through MOVEMENT, CREATIVITY, MUSIC & COMMUNITY... BUT NOT IN A CHOREOGRAPHED WAY!!
At Manahau Movement we encourage you to listen to your body with your body Whakarongo, Whaka.Rongo. Only you can do you and that amazing body brain you have, will do the rest.
"Dancing in Kaia's dance space is the very best medicine anyone could offer me. Medicine for my soul. The opportunity for me to really connect with who I truly am and come home to myself. To simply be my true, authentic self in a space free of judgement"

IWI ~ Ngāti Pahauwera, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngā Ruahine, Ngāti Pakeha.
I whakapapa to the East Coast and the West Coast of Aotearoa, I grew up in Pōneke and Porirua. My first love was dance, and then life lead me to become a martial Artist in my formative years. I rediscovered the power of movement and dance in clubs and at festivals in Europe at which time I was a bodyworker/massage therapist.
With my Scottish and English whakapapa I began sitting in circles with the witches they didn't burn,
discovering more about the cycles of my feminine self and our world.
When I returned to Aotearoa I began a journey of healing, it lead me on many paths back into my culture and many adventures including that of 'the process' of decolonizing my mind, and my body. These paths are what I fill up my tool kit/my kete with and the accumulation all of this and more, is how I teach.
I am Ringa Toi, Māmā, magical soundscape creator, a weaver of music and humans, a neurodiverse human being, and a powerful space holder. The space I create on my dance floor brings a grounded spirituality. It is a brave space an indigenized space, a space of empowerment, and radical self-responsibility.
I play phat beats and melodies that call you home to yourself again and again and I fucken love it!
Come join in. It is revolutionary.
